Question by AskAJ: Inpatient vs outpatient for eating disorders?
I was diagnosed with anorexia a few months ago and now want to get help, what are the pros and cons of each? Thanks 🙂

I was diagnosed with anorexia almost 1 and 1/2 years ago and I am not better because I am an outpatient.

Inpatient Pro:
~ You get better faster
~ People there can relate to you
~ You can make friends
~ If you have any trouble you can be helped 24/7
~ If there was a bag situation at home that led to your eating disorder, you will be taken away from it
~ YOU WILL GET BETTER FASTER
~ They can tell if you lie (which sounds scary, but it is very beneficial.)

Outpatient Pro:
~ You get freedom

InPatient Con:
~Little freedom
~ Withdrawal from friends and family (but only for a short period of time)

Outpatient con:
~ You can lie about your eating and it is very easy to hide
~ You can be like me and not get better
~ You can slip with your eating for one or two days (which, as you know, leads to a cycle)
~ You are exposed to the reason you have an eating disorder
~ You can be depressed and fighting an inner war with yourself and nobody will notice.

I highly recommend inpatient
