Physical Signs of Depression

Physical Signs of Depression – When you think of depression, you probably think of sadness, anxiety, and hopelessness. But depression can also have physical symptoms. That’s because physical pain and depression are closely related. Like one college sophomore in Pittsburgh we read about. She couldn’t eat or sleep, and didn’t feel like leaving her bed. She says she knew something was wrong, but she didn’t feel “down.” At the same time, she had a 4-point-0 grade point average, and lots of friends……and thought her doctor was crazy when he diagnosed her with depression. But the meds he prescribed really helped. So, here are 4 physical signs of depression you might not be aware of: • #1: Depression commonly causes headaches and migraines. In fact, one study found that if you’re severely depressed, you’re 3 times more likely to have your first migraine than someone with no depression. • Then, there’s back pain. Canadian researchers found that people who suffer from depression are 4 times more likely to develop intense or disabling neck and low-back pain than people who aren’t depressed. And if you already suffer from back pain, joint pain, or muscle ache, depression can make it worse. • Depression can also lead to digestive problems — like nausea, diarrhea, and chronic constipation. Experts say that 60 percent of people who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome also have a psychological disorder……which is usually depression or anxiety. • One final physical sign of depression: Exhaustion and fatigue
