I Would Like to Start Some Kind of Depression Support Group… Would Anyone Be Interested?

Question by M: I would like to start some kind of depression support group… would anyone be interested?
I seriously am saddened by the sheer number of people just on yahoo! answers that talk about their depression and I want to do something about it. I have dealt with depression and it’s effects directly and indirectly for most of my life and just want to help as many people as possible. Any ideas?
facebook is a good idea… unfortunately, right now facebook access is limited for me (and will be for the next few months). same with most social networking sites, unfortunately.

Facebook can be a useful tool. Start a facebook group for it, and keep advertising it. Eventually people will join.

I think that a Yahoo email support group might be easier, and wouldn’t Yahoo email group provide more confidentiality than Facebook? Any opinions on that by others?
To build a Yahoo email support group, just go to: http://groups.yahoo.com
There, click on “Easy as 1-2-3. Start your group today.” near the center of the page.

Or consider using that experience that you have, towards one of the major existing online support groups like the message boards at the DBSA (nat’l Depression & Bipolar Support Alliance) www.dbsalliance.org website. If you go there, first click on “Find Support” on left side. Then, for real-time chat meetings via computer, you can click on “Online Support Group” to see when a variety of weekly online meetings take place, usually evenings (groups are limited to 12-people each). For their national message boards, after you click again on “Find Support,” just click on “Discussion Board.”

It’s darn good of you to help others!

Best to you in your volunteer efforts in any case.
