Goombine


 

Goombine – Goombine is a descendant of the Wadi Wadi people of the Yuin nation. He has international experience in showcasing the oldest continuing culture in the world. He has performed at the Opening Ceremony of the Rugby World Cup, the Opening Ceremony to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2009 Planet IndigenUs Festival Toronto Canada and the 2009 Port Oregon Indigenous festival. He also has many years experience performing at various festivals/events in Australia, including the festival of the Dreaming, the opening of the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre and various NAIDOC celebrations. Goombine is also a choreographer and dance teacher having choreographed the Indigenous Australian section of the opening and closing ceremonies to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He has five years experience teaching traditional Aboriginal dance to teenage school students and has won five awards in the Croc Fest competition. In his current paid employment he is actively involved in the development and implementation of drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs to Aboriginal offenders. These programs incorporate traditional Aboriginal methods of healing. Goombine is a keeper of traditional Aboriginal knowledge and actively involved in the preservation of Aboriginal culture through sharing Aboriginal song and dance.
