Demi Lovato is speaking out again about her eating disorder — this time the 20-year old sat down with Katie Couric to discuss her ongoing struggle with bulimia, revealing that she was only three years old when she first remembers experiencing body issues. In fact, she goes as far to explain that she thinks she was born with the disease and that it runs in her family. At her lowest point — the singer admitted to binging and purging up to six times a day. She then went into detail regarding her stint in rehab — comparing treatment to being stuck in prison. Apparently the facility implements very strict rules as a means of getting patients to realize just how sick they really are. These rules include not being able to go to the bathroom by yourself, somebody watching you every time you would eat, and even facing certain consequences if you’re unable to finish the food on your plate. Since seeking treatment, Demi assures everyone that although she will be dealing with her issues for the rest of her life, she is finally now in a quote, “good place.” She finishes up the interview with some advice — explaining that she thinks the only way to really accept yourself is by quote, “Surrendering and letting your body be what it is naturally.” We couldn’t agree more and are so glad that Demi has been able to overcome this tough time in her life and hope that she’s able to stay strong in her
