Can You Go Into Rehab Just for Depression?

Question by Brianna: Can you go into rehab just for depression?
I cant even take my depression anymore. I’m never ever ever happy. No one is all the time but I never am. I’m either “functioning” or really really low. I’m in therapy and on medication but it’s just not enough anymore. I don’t cut myself and I’m not suicidal, but I just can’t keep up with this anymore. I’m beyond drained. Can you get into a rehab center solely for depression? I’m 17 if that means anything

The teen years are the absolutely worst time of your life. I’m surprised any of us survive it.
You are struggling with so many issues and from the effects of accumulated stress. Your
body and mind are trying to cope but … it’s hard.

You probably have a chemical imbalance in your brain which is very common and nothing
to be ashamed of.

If the therapy/meds you’re taking now aren’t working, then you need a better therapist who
can test you and prescribe appropriate medications to help you get better. Give the
meds time to work. It takes the body weeks to adjust to any new meds.

With the right meds, you will be much better, happier, calmer, safer and feel normal.
You won’t get well by yourself and, by ignoring it, it will only get worse.

But therapy and meds can do only so much. God is the ONLY one who knows what you’re thinking, how you’ve struggled and what you’re going thru. He loves you passionately and wants to be your BFF. He has a super-deluxe custom-made plan for your life that’s beyond anything you ever dreamed of.

BUT He waits for us to ask. Invite Him into your heart, ask Him to take over your life. You will feel so much better. You are His special masterpiece. He planned for you before He even created the universe.

Watch Him ease the stress, strain, pain, depression .. and give you peace in it’s place. He is on YOUR side. He never stops thinking about you. His thoughts toward you are more than the grains of sand on the beach (Psalm 139). He loves you more than you can possibly imagine!

Find a big happy church and join some groups. Get a bible that’s easy to read (New King James is good) and read it every day. Find Christian support groups. Watch Christian programs like Joel Osteen, 700 Club, Daystar, TBN TV. Read Christian books, watch Christian DVDs.
All the above and churches also have wonderful counselors that can help you.

There’s so much fascinating information to learn. Jesus loves you more than you can possibly imagine. You’ll have fun and the rest of your life will be the very best of your life.

Since the bible is the best-selling book of all time, nobody can claim to have even
a basic education without having read and studied it.

I hope this helps; it sure made a huge difference for me 🙂
They who seek The Lord shall not lack any good thing. Ps. 34:10

Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. Ps 37:4-6

Pour out your heart to Him (Ps 62:8) Nothing you say will shock or surprise God.

“No one has seen, heard or even imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 cor 2:9 WOW!

Rehab is for alcohol or drug dependancy. It isn’t for depression. There is no way they would accept you into a program.

Maybe your medication is wrong. I know when I was taking a medication that didn’t work I was in a bad place all of the time. If you are in therapy and medication one of those two things isn’t working, or you haven’t given it enough time to work. I give a medication 3-4 months before judging. Are you honest with your therapist? Because they should be referring you back to the psychiatrist if you aren’t making adequate progress.

There is something called day hospital in most major centres. It is where you go to the psyc. hospital for the days and learn various ways of coping and they monitor any medication changes. Then you are at home at night. Because you are not suicidal and reasonably functional – I don’t know if they would consider it, but it doesn’t hurt to ask about it. You would need to be referred by a psychiatrist. I went and found it very helpful.

A book you may want to check out is The Feeling Good Handbook by Dr. David Burn. I like the older edition – it is yellow. If your therapist is any good you’ll probably recognize some of the techniques. If you don’t – may be time for a new therapist. They are not all created equal.

You may also want to ask your therapist about a support group. It helps to be around others in the same boat. And exercise is tremendously helpful. You won’t feel like doing it. If you wait until you feel like doing it you never will, but if you do it, even though you don’t want to, it will pump a whole bunch of feel good chemicals into your body that will help you fight the depression.

Good luck and depression seldom lasts forever. Even without treatment most depressions will subside. With treatment your odds improve a lot, and they resolve themselves quicker.
