Can Eating Disorders and Depression Be Genetic?

Question by KIMBERLY S: Can eating disorders and depression be genetic?
I’m making a family tree for my health class, and I need to know if I could include eating disorders, and depression as some of the health issues in my family. Since three people including me suffer/suffered from ED, and almost everyone in my family suffers from depression. Would it be okay to include them?

thats still an open debate. Its hard to tell whether people with those problems inherited them strictly genetically, or got them because of the environment they were raised in.

Yes depression can certainly be genetic, I’m not quite as sure about anorexia, but it is a mental illness so I don’t see why you couldn’t include that as well : )
