Can Anti Depressants Help to Make You Feel More Confident?

Question by Mabel B: Can anti depressants help to make you feel more confident?
I have been prescribed medication for anxiety and depression. As part of the depression I have lost all my self confidence and self belief, and then of course when I try and do things that are now out of my comfort zone the anxiety kicks in.

I am aware that anti depressants aren’t some sort of “miracle cure” I am aware of how they actually work, but what I want to know is, along with helping bringing your mood back to normal levels, do they actually help with confidence issues too? Is it all linked?

Serious answers only please, from those of you who have been through it yourself.

Thanks in advance.

Hi! I have been on anti-depressants several times and, yeah, they always make me feel better about myself in addition to lifting my mood.

I haven’t been through it myself, BUT my mother has, and she was on pills for 14 years. She recently stopped, and said that the withdrawal was terrible, and her confidence came from that bottle. It makes you lethargic and dependent. So the answer is yes, it does, but not without a price.
