What Do Charities Do With the Unusable Clothing Donated to Them?

Question by Sara: What do charities do with the unusable clothing donated to them?
I’m sure charities receive a few tattered shirts as donations along with the good ones.
Are these sold to be recycled as something else?
In the Depression days, people would sell their old cloth to the “rag man” who would then sell it to the paper mills to be turned into higher quality writing paper.
Do you think the Salvation Army and Goodwill are doing this?
Or are they just throwing this cloth away?

That’s a great idea. Recycle ALL Garbage. Egg shells go to organic garbage; paper into recycled paper and cardboard, etc.

But I am informed that they just toss it into general garbage and tossed into the piles like the junk heaps.

I don’t know about rags. Extra good stuff sometimes goes to 3rd world countries.
