She is also a staff psychologist at the Eating Disorders Clinical and Research Program at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and at the Klarman Eating Disorders Center at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Mass. In addition to providing clinical care and supervision, Dr. Thomas’s research program focuses on the development of an empirically supported ED typology that better reflects clinical reality. Her clinical interests include the flexible adaptation of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to meet the unique needs of patients with atypical EDs, and the cultivation of motivation to change in treatment-resistant individuals with anorexia and bulimia nervosa. At the MGH Eating Disorders Clinical and Research Program, she provides outpatient individual and group CBT for adults with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and atypical ED presentations. At the Klarman Eating Disorders Center, McLean Hospital’s residential specialty unit, Dr. Thomas created, led, and now supervises a body image program that adapts empirically supported interventions for use with this adolescent patient population by incorporating multi-media didactics and therapist-led exposures
