Has Anyone Who Has Had Binge Eating Disorder Gotten Help/therapy for It and Actually Gotten Better?

Question by brittc: Has anyone who has had binge eating disorder gotten help/therapy for it and actually gotten better?
i have had an eating disorder for as long as i can remember, and it has ranged from extreme dieting to aneroxia and most recently (for the past year and a half or so) to binge eating. i have gained about 25 pounds in 2 years and i;m sick of it. i want to lose wait and i want to stop eating, but i just can;t, plus i play soccer, so i often trick myself into thinking that i need more calories in order to play harder, when in reality i don’t. i’m 5’7, weigh about 160 pounds, and i’m going to start to go to therapy in a few weeks, but i want to know if therapy will actually help me stop binging and start thinking about food in a healthy way

You have an unhealthy relationship with food. Therapy can help a lot. So might medications such as Prozac.

I believe it will. Therapy can help you get to the underlying feelings that may be causing the eating disorder whether it be anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorder. When treating any kind of eating disorder, a treatment team approach usually works best. This would consist of a therapist to work on the undelying issues, a nutritionist to help you learn to eat healthier, and a medical doctor to monitor your health. Hope this helps!
