Daughter’s Best Friend W/ Eating Disorder Is Clearly Dying. What Do I Do?

Question by sardonic94: Daughter’s best friend w/ eating disorder is clearly dying. What do I do?
My daughters best friend since Pre-K is anorexic and bulemic. Her parents are handling the issue by threatening her….”If we see you throw up one more time, we’re putting you in rehab.” This is only driving her to be more stealthy. We realized yesterday that she is profoundly ill and collapses often. Her parents will not listen to me or my child. The girl is so far gone her contacts won’t stay in her eyes. What do I do? I know these diseases are about control and that not eating is only a symptom. I am genuinely afraid she will do permanent heart damage or die…..soon. Please advise.

try contacting a counselor at the school…if the parents will not listen to you..maybe the school can find them help or at least someone they will listen to

If she is under 18 I would consider calling child services….this is abuse to not treat this.

Be compassionate toward her. Look for websites on the anorexia – they probably have information on how to handle a situation like this.

Prepare your daughter for her friend’s death.

I am so sorry.
