Average Annual Suicides Connected With Weight?

Question by Amber: Average annual suicides connected with weight?
I’m trying to make an argument with a friend of mine on why photo-shopping is in any way harmful for todays society and I can’t for the life of me find any research on an annual count of suicides due to the person(s) inability to lose weight. Does anyone know or able to find a page with any kind of numbers or charts to show this kind of information?

Well, I don’t know about actual suicides but anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder related with an obsession of gaining weight or not losing weight fast enough has caused many deaths world wide. People that suffer from anorexia nervosa refuse to eat and to maintain a healthy weight and this has to do also with the distorted view that they have of themselves. Here is what I found about deaths caused by anorexia nervosa, but if you search I am sure you can find much more information.

“The mortality rate associated with anorexia nervosa is 12 times higher than the death rate of ALL causes of death for females 15 – 24 years old.”

“Data from over 10 million death records (all National Center for Health Statistic registered deaths in the USA for 1986±90) were examined for mention of anorexia nervosa as a primary or contributing cause of death. Only 724 were found, which equals an average of 145 annual deaths, and a rate of 6.73 per 100,000 deaths.”
